Shower Filters for Hotels: What Buyers Should Specify Before Ordering

Sooner or later, housekeeping or the front desk passes on the same feedback: the shower water smells of chlorine, or a guest says their skin felt tight after a shower. An operator can ask the water treatment contractor to look at the supply, or deal with it room by room by fitting a filter in front of each shower head. This guide covers the second route: shower filters for hotels, apartments and serviced rentals, written for whoever has to specify and source them for dozens or hundreds of rooms, whether that is a hotel group’s purchasing team, a fit-out contractor or a wholesaler who supplies hotels.

Why hotels look at shower filters

Water complaints are awkward for a hotel. A guest notices a chlorine smell in the first minute of a shower, and staff have nothing to offer except an apology. Some of those complaints end up in reviews, which stay online long after the shower is fixed. A filter at the shower arm is a visible, low-cost response that does not need a plant room project.

Some properties now market filtered water as part of the stay. In a June 2026 press release, The Garden Hotel & Resort in Fort Lauderdale announced that it had installed CLEAR shower filters and under-sink filters in every guest room, and described itself as the first hotel in the world to do so. That is the hotel’s and the vendor’s own claim, but it shows where operators see the value: guest experience and a story the brand can tell. Hotels are not alone here: salons face a similar problem with color work.

Search this topic and most results are about travelers packing a portable shower filter for hotel stays, or whether a newer hotel needs one at all. That is a retail question. This guide is for the buyer on the other side of the room door.

Where a shower filter fits next to building-wide treatment

A shower filter is a point-of-use product: it treats the water at the shower and nothing else. Entry filtration, softeners and reverse osmosis sit at the building inlet or under a sink, and they are a separate purchase with a different contractor.

Be clear with your client about what a shower filter does. Culligan’s overview of shower filters describes them as mainly reducing chlorine at the shower, and says they do not soften water or treat hardness minerals, iron or sulfur. If the complaint is limescale on the glass, the answer is a softening system. If it is a chlorine smell, a shower filter is a reasonable fit.

Ask for a water report before you choose. Some properties run both: a building system chosen with the water treatment contractor, and filters at the showers. Whatever you buy, do not promise the hotel a reduction figure unless a test report for that exact model and cartridge supports it.

Specs to lock in before you order

On a large rollout, most problems are physical: the filter does not thread on, or the building pressure is outside the range. Settle these points on paper first.

Connection

Jinko’s shower filters use a G1/2″ connection, do not need an adapter and fit standard US 1/2″ NPT shower arms directly. Ask the property to photograph the shower arm and head connection in each room type. Older wings and refurbished floors are where an unusual thread tends to turn up.

Temperature and pressure

The filters are rated for water at 5 to 55°C and 0.1 to 0.5 MPa. Compare that with the building’s measured figures, not the design drawings. Upper floors, low-pressure zones and floors fed by booster pumps can sit at different ends of the range. If engineering runs outlet hot water above 55°C for any reason, raise it with the factory before ordering.

Where it installs and what is in the box

The filter fits between the shower arm and the shower head, or in front of an overhead rain shower. Each box contains the filter body and a cartridge but no shower head, so if the hotel is also replacing its heads, that is a separate line in the order. Count rooms with an overhead shower separately. For more on the format, see how inline filters differ from filtered shower heads.

Housing and flow

Plastic housings come in ABS or PP; the JK-S6 has an aluminum alloy housing. Guests see the filter every day, so match it to the bathroom fittings.

Flow is what guests notice next. NBC News Select’s guide to filtered showerheads notes that a filter fills with debris as it is used and should be changed on the brand’s schedule to keep the flow up. Ask for a flow test on the sample at your building’s pressure, and repeat it on a cartridge that has been in use for a while.

Models

Model Main feature Cartridge Worth considering for
JK-S3 Clip-in cartridge, horizontal design, easy cartridge changes; Jinko’s main model PP cotton with calcium sulfite, a carbon rod or carbon fiber; not shared with other models Properties where housekeeping changes cartridges often
JK-S4 Diamond-cut housing Composite: carbon fiber, copper-zinc (KDF-type) media, calcium sulfite and vitamin C Standard rooms where the look matters
JK-S5 Cartridge reminder ring; a new model Same composite cartridge as the S4 and S6 Teams that want a visual cue for changes
JK-S6 Aluminum alloy housing; the premium model Same composite cartridge as the S4 and S5 Suites and upscale bathrooms

Planning cartridge changes across rooms

A guest at home changes one cartridge when they remember. A 150-room property has to change 150 on schedule, with stock on the shelf.

Set the interval. Jinko recommends a new cartridge every 3 to 6 months, the same range Culligan gives. Where you land is your call: high occupancy and heavily chlorinated water point toward the shorter end. Our guide on how often to replace a shower filter covers the signs of a worn cartridge.

Keep to one cartridge. The JK-S3 cartridge does not fit the other models, while the S4, S5 and S6 share one. So a property could put the S6 in suites and the S4 in standard rooms and still stock a single refill. Mixing the S3 with any of the others means two cartridges to track.

Decide who changes them. Usually housekeeping or maintenance, floor by floor on a fixed cycle. The S3’s clip-in cartridge is designed for easy changes, but test the procedure on a sample with the staff who will do it, and put the steps on one card.

Track the cycle. The S5’s reminder ring gives a cue in the room. The alternative is a recurring work order in the maintenance system. Either works if someone owns it.

Ask about tampering. Small fittings go missing from guest rooms. Ask the factory what can be done to make the filter harder to remove or to show it has been opened, and get the answer in writing before you promise anything to the hotel.

Order refills with the first batch. Agree the cartridge price and refill packing together with the filters, so the first change does not wait on a new order. If you supply several properties, set up a replacement cartridge program instead of handling each refill order separately.

Branding and custom orders

Many hotel buyers want the filter to carry the hotel’s name, or at least to look like it belongs in the bathroom. As a shower filter manufacturer, Jinko assembles the filters in-house and offers:

  • Logo: on the filter and the packaging; ask which marking method suits the housing material.
  • JK-S3: logo, packaging, manual and cartridge configuration.
  • JK-S4, S5 and S6: the same, plus housing color and surface finish.

Logo, packaging and manual are routine. A custom cartridge, color or finish is evaluated for each order, so raise it early if the hotel has a set palette for its bathrooms.

Someone still unpacks hundreds of boxes and has to find the right refill later, so print the model, the refill code and the change interval clearly. Our guide to shower filter packaging lists what else belongs on the box.

How the order runs

Stage What to expect from Jinko
Minimum order From 1,000 units, flexible by model and customization. Orders are generally one model; ask if you need more.
Samples Existing samples in 2 to 3 days, customized samples in 5 to 7 days. Whether samples are charged depends on the request; a sample fee can be credited against the order.
Mass production 20 days
Checks before shipment Leak test, appearance, pressure resistance and packaging
Documents Jinko can provide CE and RoHS documentation.
Warranty One year from the shipping date. Quality problems are confirmed with photos or video, and replacement units are sent.

Hotel groups each run their own purchasing process, and some require a tender or supplier onboarding before a first order. Confirm with your procurement team what they need from a factory, and send that list with your inquiry.

An example hotel brief

Here is what a filled-in brief might look like from the buyer’s side. The property and every number in it are illustrative, not a Jinko package.

Item Example entry (illustrative) What to confirm with the factory
Property 120-room city hotel, one shower per room Whether the 1,000-unit minimum can include refills or other properties
Overhead showers 2 rooms with an overhead rain shower Fitting position in front of the overhead outlet
Connection G1/2″ at the shower arm; photos of each room type attached That the filter threads on without an adapter
Building water Pressure measured on the top and bottom floors; hot water set point noted That both sit inside 5 to 55°C and 0.1 to 0.5 MPa
Model JK-S3 in all rooms, or one of the S4, S5 and S6 Flow at our pressure, on a new and a used cartridge
Branding Laser-engraved hotel logo, plain box with the refill code Logo position and box artwork on the sample
Change interval Every 4 months, done by housekeeping Cartridge price and refill pack size
Spare cartridges One year of refills plus a small buffer, shipped with the filters Lead time for the next refill order
Security Filters should be hard for guests to remove What options exist, in writing
Trial 5 rooms for four weeks before the full order Sample timing and whether the fee is credited

Look at the first row again. A single property of this size can fall below the usual minimum, so it can make sense to order through a wholesaler or group buyer who combines several sites. Say so in your first message.

For reference, Jinko’s minimum order is from 1,000 units, flexible by model and customization. A smaller project can sometimes count cartridge refills toward the quantity, or ask directly about a flexible minimum. Neither is guaranteed, and the answer depends on the model and the customization.
